The GTA 6 physical edition is a code in a box: there is no disc inside, only a download code for the Standard Edition. Rockstar says it reaches retailers from 12 November, a week before the game unlocks on 19 November.

  • What is in the box: a download code for GTA 6. “A disc will not be included in the box” (Rockstar Support)
  • In stores: from 12 November 2026
  • Edition: Standard only. There is no physical Ultimate Edition
  • Pre-order bonus: physical pre-orders include the Vintage Vice City Pack
  • Region lock: PS5 codes are tied to your account region. Xbox codes are not region-locked
  • Poster and map: free printable downloads on 19 November, plus a $0.99 double-sided poster from the Rockstar Store

GTA 6 physical edition: no disc, just a code

Rockstar’s support page on editions is clear about it: “The physical version of GTAVI will contain a download code that can be used for the digital download of the game. A disc will not be included in the box.”

That means the box works like a gift card for the game. You redeem the code on your PlayStation or Microsoft account, then download the full game. Rockstar has not given a reason for leaving the disc out.

“Code-in-box versions for both consoles should be available from retailers beginning November 12.” Rockstar Newswire, 3 November 2026

Does it work on PS5 Digital Edition and Xbox Series S?

Rockstar has not said it in those words, but the box only holds a download code, so no disc drive is involved. GTA 6 is out on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the code is redeemed in the PlayStation Store or the Microsoft Store like any digital purchase.

What is inside the GTA 6 box

This is what Rockstar confirms and what has only been reported from retail copies so far.

The poster in the box and the 230 GB figure come from photos of early retail copies. Not confirmed by Rockstar. Our report on the GTA 6 box listing 230 GB has the details.

GTA 6 physical pre-order bonus

Rockstar Support says physical pre-orders contain “One code for digital download of Grand Theft Auto VI and the Vintage Vice City Pack”. The pack includes:

  • ’55 Vapid Stanier Sedan and Garage
  • Outfits and Hairstyles
  • Exclusive Weapon Pattern

One difference from digital: Rockstar’s list for digital pre-orders also includes one month of GTA+ Membership. That line is not in the list for physical pre-orders.

Is there a physical Ultimate Edition?

No. Rockstar says: “A physical version of the Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition is not available”. Physical buyers can buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade in the PlayStation or Microsoft store once their Standard Edition code has been redeemed.

The Standard Edition costs $79.99 / €79.99 and the Ultimate Edition $99.99 / €99.99 on the official stores. UK prices vary between stores, so check your local store. Full breakdown in our GTA 6 price guide.

Region lock: check before you buy abroad

PS5 codes only work on PlayStation accounts from the region they were sold in. Rockstar lists regions such as North America (US and Canada), United Kingdom, Oceania (Australia and New Zealand) and “Rest of EMEA and Asia”, which covers most of the EU. Rockstar advises you to buy from a retailer in the same country as your account.

  • PS5: region-locked to your account region
  • Xbox: “Codes purchased are not region-locked.”
  • Japan: PS5 codes expire 170 days after 19 November 2026

Can you pre-load with the physical edition?

Yes, once you have the code. Rockstar says codes “can be used as soon as they are received”. Pre-load opens on Tuesday 10 November and needs up to 212 GB, so a box picked up on 12 November leaves a week to download before the game unlocks at midnight local time on 19 November. See our pre-order and pre-load guide and the GTA 6 file size guide.

Free GTA 6 poster and Leonida map

Fans who wanted a map in the box get one another way. Rockstar writes:

“On November 19 we will be adding an official printable Grand Theft Auto VI cover art poster and map of Leonida as a free digital download to the official site.”

A double-sided physical version of the poster will be sold “shortly after launch” in the Rockstar Store for $0.99, or given free with any Rockstar Store purchase. This page is updated at launch with the download link.
